What happened
ICT lists Kunchok Wangmo with a caveat: because of restrictions on information, it is not known whether she self-immolated. Chinese state media (Xinhua) reported in August 2013 that a court in Ngaba had sentenced her husband to death, claiming that he had killed her and "burning her body to make it look as if she had self-immolated". ICT said the full circumstances of her death are not known and raised concern that the verdict may have been influenced by political considerations.
Aftermath
According to Xinhua, as reported by ICT, the Ngaba Intermediate People’s Court sentenced her husband to death in August 2013; ICT noted that the death penalty is rarely imposed in Tibet.
