What happened

According to ICT, Lobsang Thogme, a 28-year-old Kirti monk, set fire to himself on 16 March 2013, the fifth anniversary of the 2008 protest in Ngaba in which Chinese armed police fired into an unarmed crowd. Kirti monks in exile said he was taken to the county hospital and died soon afterwards; he was the third Kirti monk to self-immolate on this anniversary.

Aftermath

According to Kirti monks in exile cited by ICT, a large force of Chinese security forces and soldiers took possession of his remains at the hospital and removed them to the prefecture headquarters in Barkham (Ch: Ma’erkang).
