What happened

According to ICT, Tenpa Darjey, a 22-year-old monk of Tsodun Monastery, set fire to himself together with fellow monk Chimey Palden outside the prefecture government offices in Barkham on 30 March 2012. He had studied philosophy at Kirti Monastery from 2003 to 2009 and was regarded at Tsodun as one of the best students of logic and debate.

Aftermath

Kirti monks in exile told ICT the area was placed under lockdown by armed troops.
