What happened
According to ICT, Chimey Palden, a 21-year-old monk of Tsodun Monastery in Ngaba, set fire to himself together with fellow monk Tenpa Darjey outside the prefecture government offices in Barkham on 30 March 2012. He had briefly studied philosophy at Kirti Monastery in 2009; ICT reported that in 2010 he was detained for more than a month in Lhasa after security personnel found a photograph of the Dalai Lama, an image of the Tibetan national flag and a Tibetan song on his mobile phone.
Aftermath
Kirti monks in exile told ICT the area was placed under lockdown by armed troops.
