What happened

According to Kirti monks in exile cited by ICT, Shichung, a 40-year-old father of two, set fire to himself on 28 September 2013 in Gomang village and ran along the road calling out in protest against the Chinese authorities before he died. The monks said he had first lit a butter-lamp before an image of the Dalai Lama.

Reported words

Aftermath

When Tibetans gathered around his body, Chinese security forces aimed their guns at the crowd; village elders appealed to both sides for calm, according to exile Tibetan sources cited by ICT.
