What happened

According to ICT, Lobsang Namgyal, a monk of Kirti Monastery in Ngaba, carried out a self-immolation protest outside the Public Security Bureau of Dzoege county on 3 February 2013 and died. Kirti monks in exile described him as an exceptional student who had been expected to study for the Geshe degree, and "a model for a new generation of students at Kirti".

Aftermath

According to Kirti monks in exile cited by ICT, his ashes were not returned to his family.
