What happened

According to ICT, citing Kirti monks in exile, Lobsang Damchoe, a 17-year-old former monk, and Lobsang Kelsang, 18, believed to be his cousin, set fire to themselves near the eastern gate of Kirti Monastery on 27 August 2012. Chinese security personnel put out the flames and took both to hospital in Ngaba and later Barkham, where both died.
