What happened
According to Kirti monks in exile in Dharamsala, cited by ICT, Konchok Tenzin, a monk who had joined Mokri Monastery as a child, set fire to himself near the monastery on 26 March 2013 and died during the protest. Fearing that the authorities would confiscate his remains, monks cremated him the same night. It was the sixth self-immolation protest in Luchu county.
Aftermath
Chinese security forces were deployed in large numbers around the monastery and nearby villages and a strict crackdown was imposed, according to Kirti monks in exile cited by ICT.
