What happened
According to ICT, Drupchen Tsering, a 25-year-old monk who had recently come to Nepal from Kardze (Ch: Ganzi) in Kham, set fire to himself beside the Boudha Stupa in Kathmandu on 13 February 2013, the third day of Losar. Nepalese police put out the flames and took him to hospital, where he died.
Aftermath
ICT reported that his body was cremated late at night on the instruction of the Nepalese authorities, without Buddhist rites, despite appeals from the Tibetan community for monks to be present to pray.
