Tenzin Tsering, a member of the Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG) Sikkim, engaged with students at Panjab University in a discussion on China’s Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress and the current situation in Tibet. The interaction provided an opportunity to introduce students to important legal and social questions concerning Tibet and encourage informed discussion among young people.

Drawing on legal perspectives and the lived experiences of Tibetans, Tenzin discussed concerns about the potential implications of China’s ethnic unity policies for Tibetan identity, cultural preservation, and fundamental rights. The conversation explored the significance of protecting Tibetan language, traditions, and religious heritage, while examining how government policies can affect the everyday lives of Tibetan communities.

Encouraging Informed Dialogue Among Young People

The engagement created a platform for students to listen, raise questions, and exchange perspectives on Tibet-related issues. By bringing these discussions into a university setting, the initiative sought to broaden awareness among Indian students and encourage thoughtful engagement with questions of culture, identity, and human rights.

V-TAG Sikkim expressed its gratitude to the students of Panjab University for their participation, curiosity, and willingness to engage in the discussion. The interaction reflected the importance of educational outreach in building understanding across communities and ensuring that complex international issues are approached through informed conversations.

Through initiatives like this, V-TAG members continue to engage with students and young people, encouraging critical thinking and greater awareness of the issues affecting Tibet and the Tibetan community.

Informed conversations are an important step towards deeper understanding, meaningful dialogue, and sustained awareness of Tibet.
