What happened

According to ICT, Dawa Tsering, a 38-year-old monk, set fire to himself on the morning of 25 October 2011 inside Kardze Monastery during a religious ceremony attended by hundreds of local people. ICT described him as the 11th Tibetan to self-immolate in protest against Chinese rule.

Aftermath

ICT reported that Chinese security forces surrounded the monastery after the protest.
