What happened

According to ICT, Damchoe Sangpo, a 38-year-old monk of Bongthak Monastery and a member of its government-established management committee, set fire to himself in Themchen on 17 February 2012 and died. Voice of America’s Tibetan service reported that monks had been banned from holding a religious ceremony, while other sources said he had objected to a “patriotic education” campaign at the monastery.
