On China’s National Day, nearly 200 people gathered outside the Chinese Embassy in Vienna for a peaceful demonstration highlighting concerns over human rights and the ongoing situation in Tibet. The gathering brought together members of the Tibetan community, human rights activists, students, and Chinese participants to express solidarity with Tibetans and call for respect for fundamental rights and freedoms.

The demonstration was jointly organised by the Tibetan Community Austria (TGÖ), Students for a Free Tibet Austria (SFT Austria), and the Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG) Austria. Among the participants were approximately 80 Chinese Christians who stood alongside Tibetans and other supporters, demonstrating solidarity across communities in support of human rights and freedom.

Although 1 October is officially observed by the Chinese government as China’s National Day, participants used the occasion to draw international attention to concerns raised by Tibetan communities and human rights advocates. Speakers and demonstrators called for respect for human rights, cultural and religious identity, freedom of expression, and the right of Tibetans to voice their concerns peacefully.

The gathering also highlighted the significance of cooperation between Tibetans and Chinese individuals who share concerns about repression and support fundamental human rights. Organisers emphasised the peaceful nature of the demonstration and its purpose of amplifying Tibetan voices while remembering those affected by policies that Tibetan rights groups and activists say have restricted political, cultural, religious, and personal freedoms in Tibet.

The demonstration concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to peaceful advocacy, cross-community solidarity, and the promotion of human rights. V-TAG Austria’s participation reflects its continued engagement in public awareness initiatives and international efforts to bring attention to Tibet-related concerns through peaceful and collective action.
